2024 : A Magical Christmas Visit to Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte

A MAGICAL CHRISTMAS FAIRY TALE CASTLE NEAR BY PARIS

It had been several years since I last spent Christmas in Europe. This year, a trip to the enchanting Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte brought that festive magic back to life. Three days before our visit, a light snowfall had blanketed the capital, creating a picturesque winter backdrop. On the day of our trip, the weather was unexpectedly mild, 13 degrees Celsius on the thermometer. Perfect for a leisurely stroll through the castle and its gardens.

Ten years ago, I visited the château for the first time. It was summer, swelteringly hot, and I was accompanied by my best friend. Fast forward a decade, and here we were again, stepping back into this historic gem, this time in a season of sparkle and wonder.

As a wedding photographer, the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte has long been on my bucket list of dream venues. Imagine my excitement at revisiting this iconic location, now dressed in Christmas decorations!

How to Get to Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte

Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a masterpiece of French Baroque architecture, built in the 17th century by Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of finances to King Louis XIV. The château is a collaboration of brilliant creatives: architect Louis Le Vau, landscape designer André Le Nôtre, and painter Charles Le Brun.

Located about 1.5 hours from Paris, the château is accessible by car or public transportation. If you opt for the train, take the line R from Gare de Lyon to Melun Station. From there, a shuttle bus runs directly to the château.

Who will love this magical experience

Vaux-le-Vicomte at Christmas is ideal for everyone, adults and children alike. The Château transforms into a fairytale wonderland, immersing visitors in a magical universe. Each room is meticulously decorated, with twinkling lights, beautifully adorned Christmas trees, and festive scenes that captivate the imagination.

Children will adore the whimsical decorations, while adults can revel in the grandeur of the historic setting and its intricate details. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a romantic at heart, or simply looking for a festive day out, this experience is unforgettable.

Reservations: Plan your visit

To make the most of your visit, reservations are required via the château's official website. You can choose between visiting just the château or both the Château and its stunning gardens. Don’t miss the illuminations of the château’s façade, which begin at 6 PM daily, adding an extra layer of magic to your visit.

The Christmas experience runs until December 20th, so there’s still time to soak in the holiday spirit. A little secret from me: while admiring the grand Christmas tree in the château’s grand salon, I made a wish, to return someday as a photographer capturing the magic of a wedding held in this extraordinary venue.

Visiting Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte during the holidays is more than just a day out; it’s an experience that stays with you. Whether you’re rediscovering the château after years or visiting for the first time, its Christmas charm is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Until my wish comes true, I’ll keep dreaming of photographing a love story as timeless and enchanting as the château itself. And if you’re planning a wedding in a venue this magical, let’s connect, I’d be thrilled to help preserve your memories in such a breathtaking setting.
